(WDRB) – Local firefighters did some Christmas shopping Friday for children whose homes were destroyed by fire.
The Louisville Professional Firefighters Local 345 donated $5,000 for the shopping spree. More than 100 children will receive the gifts, which include action figures and, of course, fire trucks.
One firefighter brought his own children with him to help do the shopping.
“I’ve done this before when I was on duty, and I’ve got two boys and I want them to learn that some people go through some stuff and don’t have all they have,” said Jim Stark with Louisville Fire & Rescue. “So I’m letting them help some people out.”
Firefighters say it’s nice to be able to help families rebound after seeing them experience the devastation of a fire.
The gifts will be handed out Monday at the annual Red Cross Christmas Party.
