(presstelegram.com) – Four firetrucks rushed into the parking lot of the MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach Wednesday morning, but there was no fire to extinguish.

Instead, around 20 Long Beach firefighters making their way upstairs to the children’s wing were met with a playroom full of eager kids dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes, ready to make their rounds through the hospital for a unique trick-or-treat experience.

Recognizing the importance of providing a normal Halloween celebration for hospitalized children, Long Beach Fire Department partnered with Miller Children’s & Women’s to deliver an experience the kids would not forget.

One-by-one each firefighter was paired with a child to carry their candy bags, pull their wagon, or push their wheelchair through the winding halls. Coordinated by LBFDKids and the Child Life Program, each department had set up stops where hospital staff waited with bowls filled with candy and toys for kids to pick from.
