(lasvegasnow.com) – They’re married, they’re Nevada Highway Patrol troopers, and on Saturday they helped save several lives, and they weren’t even working.

Joseph and Trissa DellaBalla were in the area of Washington Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard around 8:15 a.m. when they noticed an apartment building engulfed in flames.

The dynamic couple jumped into action by first pulling the fire alarms and alerting the residents of the emergency, according to Trooper Jason Buratczuk, NHP.

Joseph and Trissa then began collecting fire extinguishers and began fighting the flames.

While Trissa continued to alert residents around the back side of the building, Joseph smashed a window on the first story of the building to warn a mother and her two children of the danger, according to NHP.

After the mother and kids got to safety, the mother ran back into the apartment to save one of their pets. Joseph followed her inside to help get her and the animal out, Buratczuk said.

“Nevada State Troopers are always on duty and these 2 Troopers exemplify the high standards that our leadership and citizens expect out of our first responders. We are incredibly proud of our Troopers, thankful they are okay and we are overjoyed they were able to save lives even while off duty,” Buratczuk said.
