(WINK NEWS) – FORT MYERS, Fla. – A retired fire lieutenant’s training and quick action helped crews reach two puppies caught in a condo fire Tuesday at Eagle Ridge Lakes.
Timothy Green said “everything kind of came back, kind of like riding a bicycle.” He got nearby neighbors to safely evacuate the building before South Trail firefighters arrived, saving Toby the Poodle and a chihuahua named Ava.
Chief William Lombardo thanked Green for his service, but the retired fireman denied any show of heroism.
“I’m just one of the neighbors trying to take care of the complex here, trying to help everyone out,” Green said.
Green worked as a firefighter for 30 years and retired about 10 years ago.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the condo unit’s kitchen has significant damage.
Authorities said the fire walls installed between condos helped the fire from spreading.
