DALLAS, GA — Crews in Paulding County battled a wildfire on Tuesday afternoon that ultimately covered as much as 50 acres.
The fire was producing a large amount of smoke which was visible to residents in the western part of the county, near Dallas, Yorkville and Rockmart.
The affected area was largely rural and no homes or other structures were in immediate danger, said Lt. Steve Mapes, of Paulding County Fire & Rescue.
By 6 p.m., Mapes said the fire was contained and under control inside breaks plowed by Georgia Forestry Commission tractors.
Wind conditions had become favorable by evening, he said, and it was anticipated that further spread of the blaze would be unlikely.
