(WSBT 22) – The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department sent the following information about an officer who helped save a choking student:
Wednesday morning during a breakfast and program, organized by the Lakeland Middle School Student Council, to recognize police officers from our community– Corporal Cliff Hibbs of the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department and seventh grade student Caleb Eash met due to an unfortunate circumstance.
During breakfast with the officers at the middle school Caleb began choking and having trouble breathing.
As Caleb walked away from his table to seek help, Deputy Hibbs noticed the young boy was choking and immediately rendered aid by way of administering the Heimlich maneuver.
The food the young man was choking on was quickly dislodged and he was evaluated by the school nurse before resuming classes for the day.
