(FOX 13) – A DeSoto County Sheriff’s deputy helped a man in need find his way home with money out of his own pocket.

On Wednesday, Sgt. McCoy met a man named Dan Williams, 57, who had no money and no phone and was catching rides from Ohio to his home in Monroe, Louisiana.

Sgt. McCoy took the gentleman inside a nearby Wendy’s, and offered to pay for his meal, however, Wendy’s management covered Williams’ meal instead.

After lunch, Sgt. McCoy and his friends, Deputies Brea, Garrett, and Andrews, pooled together money out of their own pockets to buy Williams a Greyhound ticket, in addition to extra money for food and necessities.

When McCoy took Williams to the bus station in Memphis to drop him off, Williams broke down.

“Out of all of the people that reached out to help me in my time of need, it was the cops, thank you,” Williams said in tears.
