WAYLAND (CBS) — The Wayland Fire Department is praising the heroic actions taken by one of their off-duty firefighters on Valentine’s Day.

In a post on their Facebook page, the department said Firefighter Will Tyree rescued an elderly woman and her developmentally disabled son from a fire in West Roxbury.

Tyree was driving down Washington Street around 3 p.m. on February 14 when he noticed black smoke coming from the rear of a home. He stopped and found that the back of the house was on fire.

Tyree entered the building, found the woman and her son, and helped them exit, taking them to his car to keep them warm. He used piles of snow to keep the fire at bay until the fire department arrived.

“Firefighters are never off duty and will always do what they can to keep the public safe,” wrote the Wayland Fire Department in their post. “Great work Will Tyree.”
