(THE POLK COUNTY STANDARD JOURNAL) – A Polk County firefighter was recognized for his fast actions in helping save a patient’s life after keeping up CPR until paramedics could arrive.
According to a release from the Polk County Fire Department, local firefighter Jeremy Hulsey was awarded for his actions in saving the patient on Dec. 7, 2015.
The release stated Hulsey was the first on the scene after ambulances and rescue trucks were called out to a residence on Woodfall Road.
“Although firefighter Hulsey station was not dispatched to the call, Mr. Hulsey grabbed the necessary equipment and went to the incident in his own vehicle,” the release said.
He then went on to keep up “basic life support measures,” according to the release, until other help arrived and continued to help along the way to the hospital, where the patient regained a pulse and breathed on their own.
“According to the EMS crew it was the quick response and actions of Firefighter Hulsey that the patient chances of survival greatly increased,” the release stated.
Hulsey was presented with The Lifesaving award for his efforts last week by Polk County Public Safety Director Randy Lacey.
