(littlethings.com) – There are many ways you can show love for someone important to you. Kids make their parents cards and drawings. Sometimes, instead of giving gifts, helping someone achieve a goal shows how much you care. But how about saving lives? That’s the ultimate way of showing your love!
A McKinney resource officer didn’t fall short of this goal when the opportunity presented itself. Maureen Messner loves her job, and she loves the kids she greets every morning.
But one morning, while she was directing traffic during the early morning drop-off, she witnessed a horrifying scene: a car barreling towards her and the crossing students. The brave woman didn’t think twice and moved to stop the oncoming vehicle.
She tells CBS, “I got the door open about here. Dove in for the brake pad and turned the wheel that way and she stopped just shy of that sign right there.”
She points to where the car would have crashed had she not jumped to action — through the glass panes of the school’s library!
The well-loved resource officer doesn’t consider herself a hero, saying that she was just “at the right place at the right time,” but students and families are thankful that this dedicated officer was able to save children’s lives!
