A woman was rescued from her burning home in Natrona Heights Monday afternoon thanks to a passerby and two Water Authority workers.
Investigators confirmed that a fire was reported in the 1100 block of Dallas Avenue just before 2:30 p.m.
An off-duty volunteer firefighter, who was visiting his parents down the street from the scene of the burning home, said he was walking his dog when he smelled smoke and saw it coming from a house.
The man said he went to the home’s door and knocked but no one answered. He went around the back of the home and saw a woman inside doing laundry.
“I called her I said your house is on fire,” said Derrick Horneman. “She didn’t even know.”
With the help of two nearby Water Authority workers, the man rescued the 60-year-old woman from the home’s basement before firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported, but the home suffered significant damage.
