(wjcl) – A Georgia house is mostly gone, but the man inside is alive, thanks to the heroic efforts of firefighters.
Crews were called to the home on Sheila Court in Lilburn on Monday morning as fire was tearing through the house.
Once inside, firefighters couldn’t find the man on the main level or upstairs area. They found a stairwell to the basement, where they discovered the man unconscious and in cardiac arrest.
“He was in respiratory and cardiac arrest when they got to him, so he was having a heart attack. Literally, he was in the process of having a heart attack,” said Gwinnett County Fire Spokesperson Donald Strother.
The firefighters pulled him from the burning house and performed CPR.
“We all worked as a team. We all communicated well, and we were able to get him out,” said firefighter Trent Garrison.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he is recovering.
