(WALB) – The Dougherty County Police Department will be celebrating National Night Out 2018 on August 1.

This will be the 35th national anniversary of the event.

National Night Out will give citizens a chance to meet members of the police department and other first responders.

“We want the same thing they want.  We want the community to be safe and protected.  And find out we are just human beings like they are.  And we all want to enjoy ourselves.  Realize that we are not the enemy. We actually want to work with you, to make your neighborhoods safe,” said Captain Tom Jackson with the Dougherty County Police.

Last year, thanks to corporate donations, the Dougherty County Police Department was able to give over 1,000 bags of school supplies to children.

Hotdogs, chips, and sodas will be provided to children and their families, along with free school supplies.

Children will also be able to play games and win school supplies as gifts.

The department is requesting a monetary donation from you to assist with purchasing the school supplies and other items for the event.
