(WRDW/WAGT) — A one-of-a-kind organization is easing the pain of separation for military and first responder families. They call themselves…Operation Teammate.
“We support the children, specifically during separation, but we also support the children all year round,” Tim Montjoy, founder of Operation Teammate said.
After returning from deployment, Air Force Veteran, Tim Montjoy and his daughter Bethany, founded the national non-profit. They take kids, sometimes the whole family, to local games where they can meet the players and get that behind the scenes look.
“We use sports as kind of an attention step and we take kids as an appreciation for what they go through as a military or first responder child, to different sporting activities,” Tim said. “and that relationship that we build with the teams leads to mentoring opportunities between the children and the athletes.”
After starting 2 years ago, the organization has only grown, supporting more families.
Tim says the response has been overwhelming. Parents like Brandy Mitchell, love the unique and fun experience Operation Teammate brings her kids.
“I think that’s one thing Tim is really working on, is cultivating these experiences for these families and I’m just really thrilled with what he does,” Brandy said.
