(ACB 10) – The humble hero is Officer Justin Freeman, who’s been on the force for three years. Officer Freeman said he was driving around the Pocket-Greenhaven area when he saw smoke on his way to another call.

“There was actually flames coming out of the garage and there was people coming out,” Freeman said.

The family was outside of the home and flagged down Officer Freeman and told him their grandma was inside. He didn’t hesitate and ran inside.

“We don’t expect people to run into buildings every day and his action were timely and heroic,” fellow Sacramento Police Officer Matthew McPhail said.

Officer McPhail said something like this rarely happens, usually, the fire department arrives first.

“It is reassuring to know when the moment presents itself the people you work with will do the right thing when it’s needed the most,” Officer McPhail added.

When Officer Freeman was in the house he said the elderly woman did not speak English and only spoke Cantonese but the stars aligned, he happened to have a ride along that could translate.
