(Dallas Patch) – HIRAM, GA — A Hiram Police officer has received a national honor for saving a woman’s life using CPR.
Officer Jared McLaughlin was awarded the American Police Hall of Fame Lifesaving Award at a recent city council meeting.
On July 21, McLaughlin was among officers who were dispatched to the Best Western motel at 1340 Pace Rd.
They arrived to find a 68-year-old woman unresponsive.
McLaughlin immediately began CPR until Paulding County Fire Rescue and Atlanta EMS responders could arrive and take over medical care of the woman.
Medical staff at Wellstar Paulding Hospital, where the woman was taken, said McLaughlin’s actions were credited with saving her life.
According to the woman’s family, she is back home in Virginia now and has recovered well.
Hiram Police Chief Todd Vande Zande nominated McLaughlin for the Hall of Fame award. The organization’s committee reviewed the incident and found that his actions warranted receiving the award.
In a news release, the police department said the woman did not want to be publicly named, but asked that her thanks be sent to McLaughlin, the Hiram Police Department and Paulding County EMS for saving her life.
