(WSLS 10) – A retired police officer saved the lives of two people trapped inside a burning truck in Pulaski County on Monday.
While on his way to work, Frank Neice, a former Pulaski and Blacksburg police officer, came upon the truck that had hit a tree and caught fire with two passengers trapped inside at Interstate 81 Exit 94.
He was unable to open the driver’s side door, so he broke the window with his bare hands, pulled the injured driver out of the window and got her to safety, according to the Pulaski and Draper Fire Departments.
Neice went back to the passenger’s side, opened the door and took the passenger out of the truck, safely away from the burning vehicle.
In the process of saving two lives, Neice suffered minor injuries to both his hands.
In addition to being a retired police officer, he is also a U.S. Army combat veteran who now works for the federal government.
