Nearly 300 people came out to Forest Hills United Methodist Church for a luncheon Sunday to honor first responders in the Macon area.
Bibb deputies, firefighters, and EMTs all joined members of the church for lunch.
Pastor Baxter Hurley says he has hosted events like this at his old churches, but this is the first time that a lunch for first responders has been hosted at Forest Hills United Methodist Church.
Hurley says he invited first responders to the event last week because he wanted to thank them for keeping Macon safe. He says the fact that the event fell on 9/11 makes it even more meaningful.
“Being able to sit down and talk with them and just share with them our gratitude for all that they do in making Macon, and Middle Georgia, such a wonderful place,” said Hurley.
