How high does a raccoon have to climb to get a little peace? Higher than the top of a light pole apparently.

The Austin Fire Department took on an unusual rescue mission Friday when it received a call alerting them to a wayward raccoon who found himself the perfect spot for a nap atop a light pole along Highway 71.

The caller expressed concern that the raccoon might fall into traffic and cause an accident.

Firefighters Dean Murphy and Chelsea Caloia climbed to the raccoon, who looked less comfortable than a bird in a nest, netted him and safely returned him to the ground.

The raccoon was then given to Animal Control and taken to a safer location.
