(Fox 10) – A retired Phoenix police officer rescued a woman from her Ahwatukee home Tuesday evening after it caught on fire.
Phoenix Fire says that the officer’s actions most likely saved the life of the 86-year-old woman. She was taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation and is in stable condition.
The officer tells Fox 10 that a neighbor pounded on his door saying there was black smoke in the neighborhood and he needed to come out and help. The officer ran two blocks to the burning home, went inside, and pulled the woman out of the house through the window into the yard.
Aerials of the home show that part of it collapsed and will most likely be a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
