(11alive.com<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0The DeKalb and Fulton Animal Shelters are busting at the seams.<\/p>\n

They take in nearly 40,000 dogs a year.<\/p>\n

People who run the shelters got in touch with K9Kait \u2013 where 11Alive reports on animals \u2013 to plead for people to foster or adopt. But they\u2019re also thinking outside the box \u2026 or firehouse \u2026 to help find these pups homes.<\/p>\n

And for Capt. Gary Menard, there\u2019s no dog too big or too small. His clip of a squat challenge with a pup went viral \u2013 and helped get the dog adopted at record speed.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone here is a big animal lover. To be a firefighter you have to have a big heart for everything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The squat challenge was just the first time the Decatur Fire Station teamed up with Lifeline Animal Project to help homeless pets find a family. They also put together calendar photos featuring the firefighters and their adoptable dogs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re always willing to do anything for shelter animals,\u201d said Communications Director for the group, Karen Hirsh.<\/p>\n
