(WALB<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0The Dougherty County Police Department will be celebrating National\u00a0Night Out 2018 on August 1.<\/p>\n

This will be the 35th national anniversary of the event.<\/p>\n

National Night Out will give citizens a chance to meet members of the police department and other first responders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want the same thing they want.\u00a0 We want the community to be safe and protected.\u00a0 And find out we are just human beings like they are.\u00a0 And we all want to enjoy ourselves.\u00a0 Realize that we are not the enemy. We actually want to work with you, to make your neighborhoods safe,\u201d said Captain Tom Jackson with the Dougherty County Police.<\/p>\n

Last year, thanks to corporate donations, the Dougherty County Police Department was able to give over 1,000 bags of school supplies to\u00a0children.<\/p>\n

Hotdogs, chips,\u00a0and sodas will be provided to\u00a0children and their families, along with free school supplies.<\/p>\n

Children will also\u00a0be able to play games and win school supplies as gifts.<\/p>\n

The department is requesting a monetary\u00a0donation from you to assist with purchasing the school supplies and other items for the event.<\/p>\n
