(Statesboro Herald<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0Statesboro firefighters rescued two victims of an early-morning fire Monday, helping a man hanging out of a two-story window and a woman trapped inside the burning apartment building.<\/p>\n

Around 4:09 a.m., the Statesboro Fire Department responded to a call about a structure fire on Georgia Avenue near Chandler Road, said Statesboro fire Public Information Officer Derek Stoddard.<\/p>\n

As they were on the way to the scene, firefighters learned that victims were possibly entrapped.<\/p>\n

There was at least one confirmed victim entrapment on the second floor, and possibly another, also on the second floor,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen fire department units arrived on scene, firefighters found a two-story \u2026 apartment building with heavy smoke and fire conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

A man was found \u201changing out of his second-story window,\u201d and a ladder was immediately positioned to rescue him.<\/p>\n

Other firefighters entered the building, \u201cknocking down the fire as they performed a search for any (other) persons still inside,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The second victim, a woman, was heard \u201ccalling for help in the zero-visibility smoke conditions. (Firefighters) were able to locate and remove her from the building and began rendering aid before returning to finish attacking the fire,\u201d Stoddard said.<\/p>\n
