(41NBC\/ WMGT<\/a>)- A\u00a0Taylor County firefighter nearly lost his life three-years ago. Cody Carpenter says God gave him a second chance with a speedy recovery and finding the love of his life.<\/p>\n

If you have never been one to believe in love at first sight, you may think twice after reading this. One love tale begins by a couple locking eyes one-year ago at Reynolds\u2019 Georgia Strawberry Festival. This couple says if it wasn\u2019t for God, this story wouldn\u2019t have a happy ending.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarch 15, 2015, I\u2019m a volunteer for Butler Fire Department and we had got a call for an airplane down. I wish I could tell you more. I remember getting in my car and putting the key in the ignition,\u201d Carpenter said.<\/p>\n

His vehicle wrapped around a tree and it took first responders nearly two hours to cut him loose.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stayed in the hospital a total month,\u201d he recalls.<\/p>\n

Carpenter\u2019s future wasn\u2019t looking so promising. A\u00a0year later, things were falling back into place and Carpenter was back serving his community.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe and my fianc\u00e9 met at the Strawberry Festival,\u201d Carpenter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis fellow fighters that he\u2019s known that he\u2019s had a class with at the firehouse in Butler, they were talking together and I told him I said who is that you\u2019re talking to he\u2019s kind of cute,\u201d Tori Spidal said.<\/p>\n

In a small town like Reynolds, word got around they were asking about each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe actually added me on Facebook later that night, so we didn\u2019t get to meet that day, but that\u2019s when I first say him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

One year later, at the place they first locked eyes, in front of 10,000 people during the festival\u2019s parade, Carpenter got down on one knee.<\/p>\n
