(Henry Herald<\/a>) \u2013 Three Henry County firefighters were recently recognized for their quick-thinking response that saved a 20-day-old infant and allowed the baby a chance at a normal life.<\/p>\n

Paramedics Dustin Taylor and John Johnson and EMT Jeff Dodgen were awarded the Dr. Joseph E. Simon Pediatric Award of Excellence by the Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services (GAEMS). The organization recognized the trio during a reception Tuesday following GAEMS day at the state Capitol.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe crew responded to a residence where report was received of an unconscious patient,\u201d Henry County fire officials said in a press release. \u201cUpon arrival they were presented with a 20 day-old-infant, lifeless in the arms of her father. They performed a rapid assessment and responded accordingly by initiating compression and immediately ventilating the patient.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They were faced with a timely decision on where to transport the girl after transport by air was not available, and ground transport would be lengthy. The crew decided on the closest facility, where the baby was stabilized prior to ground transport to a hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crew\u2019s rapid treatment and transport choices assisted in ensuring this child was able to continue a normal life,\u201d fire officials said.<\/p>\n
