(WSPA<\/a>) \u2013 Carson Couch doesn\u2019t consider himself a hero, although to many he probably is.<\/p>\n

It was October 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0when the Belmont firefighter made a rescue, he said, that was unlike any other in his career.<\/p>\n

Couch, off-duty at the time, was driving down Piedmont Golf Course Road with his brother when he saw a man, frantic, on the side of the road.<\/p>\n

Just beyond him was a truck, quickly sinking in a pond.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe slowed down; I rolled my window down and pulled over to him,\u201d Couch said Wednesday. \u201cHe kept asking if I could swim, and that\u2019s when my little brother saw the child in the car.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trapped in the back seat was a two-year-old boy.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll I saw was his face and hands just like this, pushed up against the glass of the back of the pickup truck.\u201d<\/p>\n

Couch swam 40 yards only to realize the truck was locked.<\/p>\n

Running off of adrenaline, he says he punched through the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as the water started coming in, it started going down quick.\u201d<\/p>\n

Couch told 7 News he had just second to grab the young boy and kick himself away from the sinking car before it went under the water.<\/p>\n
