(KCAL<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0An off-duty firefighter whose car<\/span><\/span> was struck by a small plane as it crashed onto the 405 Freeway in Irvine Friday morning near John Wayne Airport helped rescue its two occupants, a California<\/span><\/span> Highway Patrol spokesman said.<\/p>\n

The Avalon Fire Department captain was driving south on the 405 Freeway at 9:35 a.m. near MacArthur Boulevard when his car was clipped by a Cessna 310.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was traveling southbound on the 405, was involved in a collision with that airplane,\u201d CHP Officer Paul Fox told CBS2 by phone. \u201cNo injuries to him, and he was able to get out and render aid to both the pilot and his passenger<\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n
