(You4State.com<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0BETHESDA, Md. \u2013 \u201cTo continue that spirit of service and my passion, I\u2019ve looked at the isolation of our neighborhoods and the vulnerability that many neighbors have to storms,\u201d said Richard Hoye, Bethesda resident and retired firefighter.<\/p>\n

Every snow storm, Bethesda residents can count on Hoye to clear Lucas Lane and a quarter-mile stretch of sidewalk along Old Georgetown Road, for nothing but smiles from neighbors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very, very grateful for it, and it\u2019s helped us many times,\u201d said Lily Rosenberg, Bethesda resident.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just such a great symbol to the community of what it means to care for one another, and for people you know, and also people you don\u2019t know, which is maybe even the most meaningful,\u201d said Todd Rosenberg, Bethesda resident.<\/p>\n

For many, the sidewalks along Old Georgetown Road serve as their main pathway to work or shops; sidewalks that are covered with mountains of snow when county plows come through.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout it, there\u2019s really no feasible way to get to those essential services, except to walk in the street, which I\u2019ve witnessed too often in my time here,\u201d said Hoye.<\/p>\n

Hoye doesn\u2019t purely rely on the traditional shovel; he\u2019s invested more than $40,000 dollars in equipment to help get the job done.<\/p>\n
