(Statesman<\/a>) \u2013 Kristina Perkerson is thanking Woodstock Fire Rescue for saving her 6-month-old Pomeranian,\u00a0Kolt, before he could have drowned Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

Perkerson said she recently moved into a new development in Woodstock, Georgia, where hers is the only occupied house and the storm drains aren\u2019t all covered.<\/p>\n

She had just put Kolt and his big sister, 2-year-old Presley, outside about 6:30 p.m., before the rain started.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As Perkerson said goodbye to a friend, Kolt slipped and fell about six to eight feet into the storm drain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI heard him say, \u201cKolt, get away from the drain\u2019 and that\u2019s when he fell,\u201d Perkerson said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After about 20 minutes of struggling, Perkerson said she and her friend couldn\u2019t free Kolt and the rain turned quickly from a sprinkle to a downpour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s four or five inches tall and I was afraid the water would start rising,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As she heard sirens in the distance, she couldn\u2019t separate in her mind the sound of rescue trucks and a tornado warning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAll of a sudden, I see the fire trucks and they literally jumped out to help,\u201d Perkerson said, adding that she\u2019s never experienced anything like the rescue before.<\/p>\n
