TURNER CO., GA (WALB<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0<\/span>During the tornado that rolled through just one week ago, first responders were busy pulling people out of collapsed homes.<\/p>\n

But one sheriff\u2019s deputy will forever remember having to rescue someone very close to his heart.<\/p>\n

Just one week ago, it was chaos in Turner County, with 31 homes wiped out. Turner County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Scotty Ireland was out rescuing families from collapsed homes when he got the call.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s bad when you are working and you get a call to where you live that people are trapped in the house, and then you are here trying to rescue them,\u201d Ireland explained.<\/p>\n

The EF-3 tornado left his wife of ten years trapped in this house.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could hardly talk on the radio to tell them where I was out at,\u201d said Ireland. \u201cMy heart nearly stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like any call, he would do anything to save a life, but this was his precious bride.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s different when it\u2019s family,\u201d Ireland said.<\/p>\n

Ireland actually climbed\u00a0through the home\u00a0and found his wife sitting in the closet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to dig through it and crawl, but we got her out,\u201d explained Ireland.<\/p>\n
