A call last Wednesday sent him flying down a dirt road where two kids had overturned the family\u2019s ATV buggy in the mud. It left 10-year-old Charlie Waters pinned underneath and his sister in a state of shock.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I could see the young child, the ATV was sitting right on top of his neck,\u201d said Sgt. Rodriquez.<\/p>\n

He sprang into action with a new tool in his new patrol car.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remembered I\u2019d put a strap in the bag, just in case. It came in handy that day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The quick action earned him a Lifesaving Medal from the Bulloch County Sheriff\u2019s Office and the gratitude of Charlie\u2019s mom.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt shows you never know what\u2019s going to happen in this job moment to moment and I couldn\u2019t be more proud,\u201d said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe should be praised for his quick reaction and keeping so cool and so calm,\u201d said Charlie\u2019s mom, Meredith Waters.<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t mean he kept that calm when he got home himself. When asked if he looked at his kids differently that night, Sgt. Rodriquez replied, \u201cOh yeah, hugged them tight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
