(FOX 8<\/a>) \u2013 LEWISVILLE, NC\u2013 Lonnie Wimmer, a firefighter with Lewisville Fire Department, was at River Ridge Taphouse in Clemmons on Saturday night when after about an hour and a half into dinner, he noticed something strange.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople were starting to act a little weird,\u201d Wimmer said. \u201cHeads hurting, people holding their belly going to the bathroom a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

They were all symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the adults were acting kind of nauseated, sick,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Wimmer called the fire department right away.<\/p>\n

Fire officials quickly found high levels of carbon monoxide in the restaurant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe identified the most likely source to be a natural gas heating system,\u201d said Lewisville Fire Department Assistant Chief Steve Williams.<\/p>\n

Fire officials say more than 30 people from the restaurant showed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.<\/p>\n

It was a scary situation that Wimmer says could have been a lot worse if first responders didn\u2019t act quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was happy that we were there,\u201d he said. \u201cThat we were able to get everybody out.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a reward, Wimmer got to walk in Lewisville\u2019s Christmas parade instead of having to work his typical shift.<\/p>\n
