(WGME<\/a>) \u2014 Found unconscious in her burning home, a Skowhegan mother and her son were pulled from the building by a police officer.<\/p>\n

The flames broke out Friday, leaving the woman and her child badly burned and in critical condition.<\/p>\n

Skowhegan police officer Tim Williams says his only thought, when he started to kick in the door of the burning trailer, was that he had to try to get that mother and child out.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst time I attempted to go in, I breathed in a lot of smoke,\u201d Williams said. \u201cAnd I backed out. So I went a little lower. Had to crawl on my stomach this time to go in.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Officer Williams got down low, he says he shined a flashlight in the burning mobile home and spotted a body. He says he crawled about 15 feet to that body and started dragging the person out. That\u2019s when he realized he was dragging not one person, but two, the mother and the child who was laying on top of her stomach.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I was getting close to the door, I noticed a baby on top of the mother,\u201d Williams said.<\/p>\n

Officer Williams thinks Andrea Curtis grabbed her 4-year-old son Tyler and was heading to the door when she passed out from the smoke.<\/p>\n

Skowhegan Police Chief Don Bolduc says Officer Williams then put his training as a medic in the armed forces to work, performing CPR first on the child and then on his mom.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gets them out of the building,\u201d Bolduc said. \u201cGets them on the deck. And then starts CPR on two people. So he saved two people\u2019s life that day.\u201d<\/p>\n

People in Skowhegan are blown away by Officer Williams\u2019 heroic act.<\/p>\n
