(WINK NEWS<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0FORT MYERS, Fla. \u2013 A retired fire lieutenant\u2019s training and quick action helped crews reach two puppies caught in a condo fire Tuesday at Eagle Ridge Lakes.<\/p>\n

Timothy Green said \u201ceverything kind of came back, kind of like riding a bicycle.\u201d He got nearby neighbors to safely evacuate the building before South Trail firefighters arrived, saving Toby the Poodle and a chihuahua named Ava.<\/p>\n

Chief William Lombardo thanked Green for his service, but the retired fireman denied any show of heroism.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just one of the neighbors trying to take care of the complex here, trying to help everyone out,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n

Green worked as a firefighter for 30 years and retired about 10 years ago.<\/p>\n

No one was hurt in the fire, but the condo unit\u2019s kitchen has significant damage.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the fire walls installed between condos helped the fire from spreading.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
