(FOX 5<\/a>) \u2013 Firefighters rescued a man in southwest Atlanta after a tree crashed onto his truck early Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

First responders told FOX 5 the 55-year-old man was on his way to work around 2:45 a.m. when the tree came crashing down on Lawton Street<\/span><\/span>, and landed on the hood of his truck.<\/p>\n

The victim was able to call 911, as well as his wife.<\/p>\n

It took rescue workers about 10 minutes to free the victim from the vehicle. Paramedics then rushed him to Grady Memorial Hospital, with what were described as moderate<\/span><\/span> injuries.<\/p>\n

The man was alert and conscious when leaving the scene<\/span><\/span>. Firefighters said if he had been about a foot further down the road, he could have been killed.<\/p>\n

Firefighters said the tree that fell was about 50 years old, planted between the sidewalk and the road<\/span><\/span>. Crews think it\u2019s roots simply gave out because of Wednesday\u2019s storm.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
