LUMBERTON, NC (NBC NEWS<\/a>) \u2013 As people continue to evacuate parts of North Carolina hit by flooding from Hurricane Matthew, a pack of puppies is joining them.<\/p>\n

A team of firefighters rescued more than a dozen dogs Tuesday from a Lumberton animal shelter.<\/p>\n

The rescue crew from Charlotte, North Carolina pulled most of the pooches from a truck that was stranded by the floodwaters.<\/p>\n

The City of Lumberton is one of the hardest hit areas when it comes to flooding.<\/p>\n

A breach along the lumber river prompted flooding Monday morning.<\/p>\n

President Obama declared a state of emergency in North Carolina Monday, making federal funding available to affected individuals in 10 counties hit by the storm.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
