(nj.com<\/a>) \u2013 An off-duty\u00a0township police officer\u00a0saved the life of a man who had collapsed while the two were reporting for jury duty recently at the Middlesex County Courthouse.<\/p>\n

Edison Police Sgt. Michael Carter administered CPR to a 68-year-old South Plainfield man who had \u201ccollapsed from an apparent seizure in a jury pool waiting room at 2 p.m. Thursday,\u201d according to a statement from the township.<\/p>\n

A woman also reporting for jury duty assisted Carter.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy training just kicked into gear,\u201d Carter said. \u201cThankfully, I was in the right place at the right time for this gentleman.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter is an 18-year veteran of the\u00a0township police department, serving as a day-shift supervisor for department\u2019s road patrol.<\/p>\n

Carter continued CPR until sheriff\u2019s officers arrived at the jury room with a portable defibrillator.<\/p>\n

Carter took the defibrillator and used it to resuscitate the man before EMTs from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital arrived.<\/p>\n

The man was transported to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.<\/p>\n
