\u201cI was driving to work in the morning, and a couple seconds before I arrived, there was a big cloud of smoke on the interstate. A big vehicle had crashed into the retention pond in the middle of the interstate,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

The driver was trapped underwater. McHale wasn\u2019t even on duty yet, but she didn\u2019t hesitate to jump in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re a cop, you\u2019re a cop twenty-four-seven. When you see something, you have to take action. You can\u2019t ignore it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even when you\u2019re eight months pregnant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know it might seem a little crazy and dangerous, but I thought of his life and the life I had inside me. I was careful, but I couldn\u2019t not help.\u201d<\/p>\n

McHale has proven herself in just three years at Fort Myers PD.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s currently assigned to the Violent Crimes Task Force.<\/p>\n

She said she sees people at their worst.<\/p>\n

Someday, she\u2019ll be able to tell her baby girl about that moment when she was at her best.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure one day when she\u2019s like, \u2018why do I like adrenaline so much? Well, there\u2019s a funny story about that.\u2019 And hopefully, she\u2019ll want to do something in the line of duty, whether it\u2019s a cop a nurse, anything to help people.\u201d<\/p>\n

McHale will be honored with the four other law enforcement officers Saturday night at Germain Arena. The event is sold out.<\/p>\n
