{"id":14257,"date":"2016-08-08T14:43:09","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T14:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=14257"},"modified":"2016-08-08T14:46:14","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T14:46:14","slug":"nashville-officer-saves-stranded-georgia-family-on-i-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=14257","title":{"rendered":"Nashville officer saves stranded Georgia family on I-40"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p>Read the full story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2016\/08\/04\/stranded-and-saved-metro-officer-rescues-family--40\/88045554\/\" target=\"_blank\">HERE\u203a\u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Tennessean<\/a>) \u2013 A Metro police car pulled up behind the disabled vehicle and\u00a0Officer Stephen Fouche, a seven-year veteran with the department, got out.<\/p>\n<p>Fouche, who volunteered to take a call to check on a disabled vehicle,\u00a0found the SUV\u2019s doors open \u2014 presumably because of the heat, and the family in distress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey told\u00a0me\u00a0a civilian had stopped earlier and gave the young adults and a baby a ride to a convenience store the next exit up,\u201d Fouche\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cI\u00a0knew they needed to eat and get out of the sun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The officer gave them a ride and\u00a0reunited the family at\u00a0the Twice-Daily\u2019s Shell station just off the McCroy Lane exit where\u00a0the manager, Sherry Street,\u00a0gave them free food and water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was obvious the folks we were dealing with were not a family of means,\u201d Fouche said. \u201cThey told me the\u00a0people who were going to rescue them needed them\u00a0to send money through Western Union just\u00a0to come pick them up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, Fouche started calling hotels in the area. When he\u00a0got\u00a0the Coley Davis Court\u00a0Microtel Motel \u00a0in Bellevue\u00a0on the line and\u00a0explained the family\u2019s predicament, the manager,\u00a0Kim Norvell, provided the stranded travelers with a free room for the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Fouche also gave\u00a0the family $100.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen an officer be so friendly, kind and generous,\u201d Washburn said. \u201cHe went out of his way and beyond his job duty to help us. Paid for the motel, gave us $100 and made sure we got to that store.\u00a0These days people\u2026 they think it\u2019s all about bad cops. They don\u2019t see what the good ones do to help people.\u00a0People need to know what kind of people we really have out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later Thursday evening, Fouche\u00a0was walking in a park with his daughter when his department\u00a0called to commend\u00a0him for\u00a0his actions.<\/p>\n<p>When he got off the phone, he said\u00a0his daughter\u00a0asked him why work\u00a0called.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told her it\u00a0only takes one little candle to\u00a0light up a dark room.
