A 22-year-old rookie police officer \u2013 on patrol alone for the very first time Wednesday \u2013 had a day he won\u2019t forget anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Roseville police say Officer Tom Hicke rescued two senior citizens, trapped in their flooded car that was quickly taking on water.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never know what\u2019s going to happen,\u201d Hicke told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS a couple of hours after the rescue.<\/p>\n

It all happened on Fairview Avenue, right below Minnesota Highway 36. That\u2019s an area that floods frequently when it rains, and Hicke said the water was up above his waist at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey still had their seatbelts on. They both looked panicked,\u201d Hicke said of the couple.<\/p>\n

He waded in, made the save, and police say the couple is doing fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe male actually got out of the vehicle and tried to start pushing his car,\u201d Hicke laughed. \u201cI had to tell him we had to get out of there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Given his eventful first day on the job, we asked Hicke what he has planned for day two. His response?<\/p>\n
