(NEWS10) – What would you do if you were driving down the highway and saw someone on the side of the road having a medical emergency? For off-duty paramedic Chelsea Noe, the answer was easy, and could have saved a life Wednesday morning.

Chelsea Noe is originally from the Albany area, but now works as a paramedic in Newburgh. She’s used to saving lives, but never thought she’d be doing it on the side of a busy highway, Wednesday morning.

Wednesday morning she was driving through the Capital Region on her way to a doctor’s appointment when she saw something she knew wasn’t right.

Noe says she was driving on 787 between exits 3 and 4, when she saw a man being pulled from his car on the side of the road. The man appeared lifeless.

That’s when she pulled over to help, and jumped into action.

The man, who has now been identified as 70-year-old Robert Guynup of Rennsslear, had no pulse.

Noe started to administer first aid to Guynup, with the help of Ian Henry, a State Trooper, and another person trained in CPR.

They gave the man CPR and shocked him with a defibrillator, and were eventually able to restore his pulse.

Battalion Chief William Moore, says the sooner CPR is started, the more likely somebody is to survive, so Noe and the others could have saved Guynup’s life.

“She and the other paramedic made a difference as to whether or not this guy lived or not,” said Moore.

He says the Capital Region should feel safer knowing people like Noe are around.

“It should make every single one of us a little bit more comfortable in knowing that there are people who are willing to stop and render help in situations like this,” said Moore.

Noe says it’s a true show of the comradery in the Capital Region.

“It’s an honor to come back into the city today and be able to see that the community still exists, and that we were able to help out an individual that needed our help who was lifeless,” said Noe. “He may now possibly have a chance at life, and family members may be able to share more memories with him.”

The Albany Fire Department and Mohawk Ambulance arrived on scene shortly after, and the man was taken to the hospital.

Watch the report HERE›› ALBANY, N.Y.
