{"id":14096,"date":"2016-06-20T18:08:53","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T18:08:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=14096"},"modified":"2016-06-20T18:08:53","modified_gmt":"2016-06-20T18:08:53","slug":"dallas-county-deputy-saves-man-in-fiery-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=14096","title":{"rendered":"Dallas County deputy saves man in fiery crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p>Watch the report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fox4news.com\/news\/160996495-story\" target=\"_blank\">HERE\u203a\u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fox4news.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">FOX 4<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0A Dallas County sheriff\u2019s deputy risked his own life to save a man trapped inside a burning <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">car<\/span><\/span>Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The fiery crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 30 near Hampton Road. A speeding Toyota Scion clipped another <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">vehicle<\/span><\/span>, hit the wall of the highway and rolled four times, finally landing on its side in the HOV lane.<\/p>\n<p>The SUV burst into flames with the <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">driver<\/span><\/span> trapped inside. Fortunately, Deputy Paul Lee was in the right place at the right time.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Lee said he heard a call about the accident come over the scanner and looked up to see flames about a mile away. He <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">drove<\/span><\/span> up as close as he could, jumped out of his patrol car and ran across I-30. To his horror, he saw the driver trapped inside.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy said he went back to his patrol car for a fire extinguisher and tried to put the fire out. He was able to calm the man down and <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">move<\/span><\/span> him to the back of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>By then Dallas firefighters were arriving and scene and helped pull the man to <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">safety<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMyself? I\u2019m second. Whoever is in this car is first to me. That\u2019s the way we\u2019re trained, you know? You go to danger, take <span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">care<\/span><\/span> of it,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n<p>The driver was taken to Parkland hospital in serious condition.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally, this happened on Deputy Lee\u2019s birthday.
