\u201cYou\u2019ve seen how murky that water is.\u00a0 There\u2019s no way I would have been able to look down\u00a0there (under the water) and find him,\u201d Schroer said.<\/p>\n

He \u201csearched\u201d for them using his arms and legs under the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hooked the arm of the one brother.\u00a0 The other one I caught with my leg and I\u2019m sitting in the water \u2026 trying to grab him.\u00a0 I finally grabbed his arm.\u00a0 I pulled him up with my leg and my arm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Schroer is still recovering from a bad car accident that left him with several broken ribs.\u00a0 He says he took quite a blow to those ribs from the second boy\u2019s flailing arms, but he kept at it and caught a break.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found a little boulder that I was able to push off of (with my foot) and kind of push him away from me towards the shore where the rock ledge picks up.\u00a0 That\u2019s when my head popped up.\u00a0 I was able to get a shoulder around him and swim to the shore with him,\u201d Schroer said.<\/p>\n

The boys\u2019s parents were among the Ribfest vendors cleaning up.<\/p>\n

Their father, Antonio Ellis, of Five Aces Barbecue in South St. Louis told FOX 2 Schroer saved his son\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

Ellis a veteran.<\/p>\n
