(ABC 11<\/a>) \u2013 A Holly Springs police officer is credited with helping a family down on their luck.<\/p>\n

An ABC11 viewer captured a photo of Officer Daryl Green buying gas for the family at the Eagles gas station off Highway 55 Sunday evening after their tank ran dry.
\n\u201cYou don\u2019t get calls like this in Holly Springs a whole lot, so I knew probably this was legit, and they needed some help,\u201d said Green.<\/p>\n

The family, who spoke little English, told the officer they were trying to get home. Their mini-van was running on fumes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt literally looked like from the inside of their van that they were living from their van, so I wasn\u2019t sure how bad off they were,\u201d said Green.<\/p>\n

He decided to fill up the tank using his own money.<\/p>\n

The picture shows Green talking to the mother as she held her little girl.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was definitely feeling for that little girl because that\u2019s where my heart is, with my daughter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Police Chief John Herring told ABC11 it\u2019s not the first time one of his officers stepped in to meet a need.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had officers pushing cars, changing tires. I think that\u2019s just what officers enjoy doing is helping people. It makes me proud,\u201d said Herring.<\/p>\n

While Green doesn\u2019t want the praise, he hopes the gesture will get someone else\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would hope someone would do that for me if I was having some hard times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
