(WTVM<\/a>) \u2013 Two Maryland officers\u2019 quick thinking saved a man\u2019s life, and it was all captured on tape.<\/p>\n

Cody Fields, one of the officers, has been dispatched to car crashes many times before. But this was a first.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope there\u2019s not somebody inside,\u201d Fields said to himself when he approached the vehicle.<\/p>\n

But there was. A 34-year-old man had fallen asleep and crashed along the concrete barrier of busy Interstate 495.<\/p>\n

Fields soon got some help from veteran Officer Brian Nesbitt.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt one point the fire was coming up underneath and hitting Officer Fields\u2019 legs, and that\u2019s when I said to him we have to go now or we\u2019re going to be in trouble,\u201d Nesbitt said. \u201cWe never took his seatbelt off, we didn\u2019t cut it. We didn\u2019t do anything. We just ended up pulling him out somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neither officer was burned. Soon after wiping the soot from their faces, they realized the dashcam recorded the harrowing rescue.<\/p>\n

They never shared this video with their superiors. It was a colleague who later put in a request that they be honored for their heroism.<\/p>\n

They were recognized at a ceremony in March. That was also the first time they shook the hand of Rashad Isreal, the man they saved.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told them thank you, but they made it seem like it wasn\u2019t no big deal to them,\u201d Isreal said. \u201cThey were doing their job, but their job meant the world to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
