{"id":13887,"date":"2016-04-11T15:18:31","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T15:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=13887"},"modified":"2016-04-11T15:18:31","modified_gmt":"2016-04-11T15:18:31","slug":"fla-firefighters-rescue-baby-bear-from-wildfire-name-it-smokey-junior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=13887","title":{"rendered":"Fla. firefighters rescue baby bear from wildfire, name it \u2018Smokey Junior\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p>Watch the report <a href=\"http:\/\/wric.com\/2016\/04\/08\/fla-firefighters-rescue-baby-bear-from-wildfire-name-it-smokey-junior\/\" target=\"_blank\">HERE\u203a\u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(WRIC\/<a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/firefighters-rescue-baby-bear-wildfire-smokey-junior\/story?id=38243682\" target=\"_blank\">ABC<\/a>) \u2014 A group of firefighters found an orphaned bear cub in the midst of a brush fire.\u00a0In a nod to the iconic firefighting bear \u201cSmokey,\u201d they named the adorable animal \u201cSmokey Junior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters rescued the baby bear\u00a0in Central Florida near Orlando on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Fire crews from Lake County were battling a brush fire that had burned through more than 250 acres when they stumbled upon \u201cSmokey Junior\u201d wandering alone.<\/p>\n<p>The rescued bear weighed in at roughly 15 to 20 pounds.\u00a0Firefighters nicknamed the foundling \u201cSJ\u201d \u2014 short for \u201cSmokey Junior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the baby bear suffered slight burns on its paws and face from the fire.
