PHOENIX (KPHO\/KTVK<\/a>) \u2013\u00a0<\/span>A landscaper who got stuck in a palm tree was rescued Saturday morning by an off-duty Phoenix firefighter.<\/p>\n

Capt. Joey Gonzales\u00a0saw the man in distress and jumped into action, said\u00a0\u00a0Capt. Aaron Ernsberger of the Phoenix Fire Department.<\/p>\n

Gonzales was a couple of houses down and scaled a few walls to reach the scene.<\/p>\n

The tree trimmer was trapped after fronds sloughed off the tree and the weight of the branches began suffocating him.<\/p>\n

\u201cCapt. Joey Gonzales\u00a0ran to his aid,\u201d Ernsberger said. \u201cHe had no safety equipment but that\u2019s what these firefighters do. He rendered aid, got him out, he saved his life is what he did.\u201d<\/p>\n

He helped get the man safely down.<\/p>\n

It happened just before 1 p.m. at\u00a08019 Seventh Ave. in central Phoenix<\/p>\n

\u201cThese tree trimmers have a dangerous job,\u201d Ernsberger said. \u201cWe\u2019re happy the tree trimmer is alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

The landscaper was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
