Toellner was given a \u201cLife Saver\u201d award Monday night for saving a choking 9-month-old child. On March 8 at 7:29 p.m., Toellner was dispatched to the 300 block of Horicon Street for a report of a choking child. The child\u2019s father, told dispatch the baby was turning blue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Upon arrival Toellner observed that the child had a completely blocked airway. He performed the Heimlich maneuver and administered between six and eight chest compressions on the child until he was able to dislodge a piece of plastic from her throat. The child was then taken to the hospital where she made a full recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Capt. Ryan Vossekuil said, \u201cThis is the type of call that makes police officers, firefighters and EMTs want to work in the public safety profession. Being able to save the life of another, particularly a baby, is what makes all of the training worthwhile.
