(FOX 25<\/a>)\u00a0\u2014<\/strong>An off-duty firefighter jumped into action to help save a man having a heart attack, who happened to be a veteran firefighter from one town over.<\/p>\n

Derek Ranno was driving in his truck with his daughter Friday when he heard a call over the dispatch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had just driven by and I heard the dispatch and I was like,\u2019I was just there\u2019 so I spun around, parked my truck and that\u2019s where I saw the Jeep,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ranno knew immediately something was wrong \u2013 the car had crashed into a fence on someone\u2019s yard. Ranno, aT firefighter and EMT was off-duty, but didn\u2019t hesitate to help.<\/p>\n

Emergency officials said the driver had suffered a heart attack when he crashed. Ranno\u00a0was helping the man, when he realized it looked familiar. It turned out the man was another firefighter from neighboring Fitchburg, 28 year veteran Marty Kukkula.<\/p>\n

For two minutes, Ranno gave Kukkula\u00a0CPR until his fellow firefighters who were working arrived on scene.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe are all grateful for Derek\u2019s actions and how much he helped Marty out at the scene,\u201d said Fitchburg\u00a0Deputy Chief Gregg Normandin.<\/p>\n

Ranno\u00a0doesn\u2019t think he did anything special.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just do what I think is right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
