{"id":13787,"date":"2016-03-15T15:17:45","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T15:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=13787"},"modified":"2016-03-15T15:18:28","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T15:18:28","slug":"off-duty-firefighter-helps-save-mans-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=13787","title":{"rendered":"Off duty firefighter helps save man&#8217;s life"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p>Read the full story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visaliatimesdelta.com\/story\/news\/local\/2016\/03\/14\/duty-firefighter-helps-save-mans-life\/81795796\/\" target=\"_blank\">HERE\u203a\u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.visaliatimesdelta.com\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\">Visalia Times-Delta<\/a>) \u2013 Shortly after Dameon Malek finished the End of the Trail Half Marathon on Saturday in downtownVisalia, he helped save a life.<\/p>\n<p>Malek, a Visalia fire engineer and paramedic, said he noticed a fellow racer laying in the roadway not breathing when he knew he had to jump in and help.<\/p>\n<p>Malek assisted American Ambulance paramedics with CPR on Don Turner Sr., a 68-year-old Visalia resident who suffered a heart attack and collapsed 200 feet short of the finish line. Turner\u2019s son, Kris Turner, rushed to his side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had already finished the race and ran back to finish with [my father], which is what we do often when we run together,\u201d Kris Turner said. \u201cWhen I turned around to go back, that\u2019s when I saw him on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don Turner is recovering in the intensive care unit at Kaweah Delta Health Care District and is expected to survive.
